Introductions

It all begins with an idea.

Okay, so I would be lying if I said I knew what I was doing. Then again, so would the entirety of the human race.

What I do know is that I have wanted to be an author for a very long time, and now that I am publishing my first novel, I am being trampled by a stampede of emotions. Excitement, fear, pride, imposter syndrome, the whole kit and caboodle. And since I chose to go the self-publishing route, that means I have to do most of the promotion and interaction stuff myself.

Yay.

So why did I, an anxious wreck of an introvert, decide to go this route instead of traditional publishing? Well, as much as I don’t like promoting myself, I don’t like people telling me how to write my own damn story even more. I was a good boy, sent some queries, attended workshops and conferences, but the more I learned about how the traditional publishing industry worked, the less appealing it sounded. It also doesn’t help that I’m a stubborn SOB who does not like to compromise on my artistic vision, as my wife Cady can attest. Which is what led her to convince me to try self-publishing: I don’t have to cut more than I feel is absolutely necessary from my story, I won’t get screwed out of rights, and I can actually say I’m a published author when my relatives inevitably ask how the book is coming.

Of course, success is never guaranteed. Not every self-published work can get as big as Andy Weir’s The Martian, and I’d count myself lucky if I get so much as one review on Goodreads. However, knowing that it has become a viable method to get one’s work out there remains a key motivator for me.

But one thing every author needs is a website, a platform outside of their stories. Which brings us here.

I am planning on uploading at least one blog post a month starting out. Subjects will range anywhere from my thoughts on a movie, book, etc. to discussing my writing process to maybe even recipes I feel like sharing. If I decide to include a comment section, I expect those who leave comments to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. Those who violate basic decency will be blocked. I expect most of the people to be reading my stuff to be adults, so it would make sense to act like it.

With that said, I look forward to posting more in the future, and I can’t wait to share my work with the world.
